1996 Pontiac Grand Am

- 1996-Pontiac-Grand-Am
1996 Pontiac Grand Am came in four models, the SE Sedan, GT Sedan, SE Coupe, and GT Coupe. A new Twin Cam 2.4-liter I4 engine replaces the now defunct DOHC Quad 4. It hits 150-hp and is paired with a 5-speed manual or optional 4-speed automatic. It is standard on both SE and GT trims. The optional 3.1, 155-hp V6 is unchanged in the 1996 Pontiac Grand Am and still only comes with the auto tran.
The 1996 Pontiac Grand Am’s engine grew quite a bit, from 2.3 liters to 2.4 liters, to make it smoother and increase torque, or pulling power, at low engine speeds. So, while the engine produces the same 150 horsepower, it will haul a Grand Am from zero to 60 m.p.h. about a second faster than last year’s version.
The 1996 Pontiac Grand Am has a slightly cleaner, smoother look thanks to new headlights, tailights, front and rear bumpers, wheels, spoiler and grille.
The 1996 Pontiac Grand Am’s exterior dimensions are 4757 mm length, 1745 mm width, 1359 mm height, 2626 mm wheelbase, 1417 mm front track, 1440 mm rear track, and 10759 mm curb to curb turning circle. Interior features include 5 seats for passenger, driver and passenger front airbag, front seat center armrest with integral box, front illuminated ashtray, stereo audio system with AM/FM, front seats cup holders, 374 liters cargo capacity, and many more.

- 1996 Pontiac Sunfire
The 1996 Pontiac Sunfire is available in four models: SE and GT 2-door coupes, SE 4-door sedan and SE convertible. The SE models come standard with a 2.2-liter 120-horsepower engine. A 2.4-liter twin-cam engine producing 150 horsepower is optional on the SE and standard on the GT. All models came with 5-speed manual transmission.
In addition, a 4-speed automatic transmission with traction control now is available on all models, and all have standard daytime running lights as well as GM’s PASSlock anti-theft system. Remote keyless entry and steering wheel radio controls are available on all models for 1996 as well, and a number of refinements also were made to the ride and steering.
Pontiac says the 1996 Pontiac Sunfire will go from zero to 60 in 8 seconds, making it more than a second faster than the ’95 model. While a five-speed manual is standard, all of the new Sunfires are available with automatic transmissions that include a traction-control system.
