2007 Pontiac Solstice is available in the base and GXP models. The base Solstice is powered by the 2.4-liter, 177-horsepower “Ecotec” 4-cylinder. The high-performance Solstice GXP came with a turbocharged, direct-injection 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 260 horsepower.

2007 Pontiac Solstice come with a 5-speed manual transmission. A 5-speed automatic is optional. Riding on a 4-wheel independent sport-tuned suspension and 18-inch wheels with performance tires, the 2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP is styled with front and rear fascia extensions high-polished stainless steel dual exhaust outlets on the outside with embroidered GXP seats and a StabiliTrak vehicle enhancement system on the inside.

Fortunately, unlike its naturally aspirated stablemate, the turbocharged GXP has the performance to back up its pretty-boy looks. While it may be Spartan on the inside, the 2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP achieves its mission, bringing some all-American competition to the Japanese-dominated roadster segment.

The 2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP’s appearance is, in a word, stealthy. The front bumper is molded with D-shaped brake-cooling dimples and an intercooler goatee. In back are dual exhaust pipes, a discreet GXP badge, and an optional lip spoiler. The side view is unmolested.

The 2007 Pontiac Solstice’s exterior dimensions are 157.2 inches length, 71.3 inches width, 50.1 inches height, 95.1 inches wheelbase, 60.7 inches front track, 61.4 inches rear track, and 35 feet and curb to curb turning circle.

Inside the 2007 Pontiac Solstice, the driver is treated to comfortable bucket seat with good lateral support. There’s a big tach and speedometer with a tiny gas gauge in between that’s buried at the far end of a long tunnel. Door panels leave a paper-thin gap next to the seats, meaning you’ll need a two-foot-long pair of forceps to reach the backrest-adjustment knob.

The comfortable cockpit has snuggly fitting leather seats that firmly hug you when you step inside, and the deceptively simple dials/buttons provide excellent visceral feedback. The sporty interior has an unmistakable European high-quality feel to it. The only drawback to the 2007 Pontiac Solstice ‘s interior is the roof deployment mechanism which requires some effort to put in place. With the top up, the car is remarkably quiet.

Doors on the 2007 Pontiac Solstice are long, so climbing in and out is relatively easy, even though it’s a long way down. Driver and passenger sit hunkered down in this roadster, with shoulders below the tops of the doors, Corvette-style. Most materials are generally good quality, particularly the leather, soft plastic and trim plastic. However, the hard plastic on the doors and dash looks and feels too much like hard plastic.

Four-wheel disc brakes are standard for the 2007 Pontiac Solstice, with anti-lock brakes an option. Though not as loaded in standard form as its cousin, the Saturn Sky, the Solstice does comeĀ  with a CD stereo, rear defroster, an adjustable steering column and a considerably lower base price. Additional options include a rear deck spoiler, leather seating, sport metallic pedals, chrome wheels, enhanced audio options, including XM Satellite Radio, and OnStar.
