1985 saw the introduction of the 1985 Pontiac Fiero GT model, which looked just like the 1984 Indy model without the decals or body color wheels. The problem with insufficient power was addressed, much to the satisfaction of the general public.

The 1985 Pontiac Fiero had two engines available, a 2.8-liter V6 Chevrolet engine and a 2.5-liter variant, producing 94 and 143 horsepower respectively. The transmissions are also provided by other companies, such as the 5-speed gearbox built by Isuzu.

1985 Pontiac Fiero was a vastly improved vehicle, with a port-injected V6 engine and nearly 45 more horsepower, an increase of over 50-percent, than its 4-cylinder counterpart. In the proceeding years, other aspects of the Fiero GT were upgraded, including the suspension and brakes in 1988, and the addition of a rear spoiler and ground affects.

The 1985 Pontiac Fiero’s exterior dimensions are 4190 mm length, 1750 mm width, 1191 mm height, 2372 mm wheelbase, 1516 mm front track, and 1527 mm rear track.

The 1985 Pontiac Firebird was restyled with a revised nose, with wrap-around inserts known as “bumperettes” to replace the old grille/solid inserts. Wrap-around bumperettes were also added to the rear bumper.

The 1985 Pontiac Firebird also came woth new taillights and full rocker and quarter-panel extensions to the Trans Am to produce a more aggressive-looking car. This was also the year Tuned Port Injection (TPI) appeared atop the 5.0-liter V8 engine with a 205-horsepower rating.

Three engine choices were offered in the 1985 Pontiac Firebird, all 305-cid V-8s: carbureted, delivering either 165 horsepower or 190 bhp; or a new tuned-port injected V-8, similar to the Corvette’s, that was good for 205 frenzied horses. The carbureted engines could be mated to either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed overdrive automatic; the fuel-injected version came only with the automatic.

The 1985 Pontiac Firebird featured a restyled nose, new taillights, and full rocker and quarter panel extensions on the Trans Am to give it a more aggressive appearance. A new WS6 suspension package was made available on the Trans Am, which also included 16-inch wheels with huge P245/50VR16 Goodyear “Gatorback” tires.

The new positive traction rear end in the 1985 Pontiac Firebird is said to be stronger than the Dana 44. New improvements in the 1985 Pontiac Firebird involve changing the interior by adding new Recaro styled seats, a new dash with redesigned gauges that use an embossed graph patterned background, new T handle shifter for autos, new ergonomic console, updated stereo, and new ergonomic steering wheel bring the 1985 Pontiac Firebird to a new level.
