2002 Pontiac Grand Am is available in two models, sedan and coupe. Both sedan and coupe come with GT, GT1, SE, and SE1 trim.

The 2002 Pontiac Grand Am SE and SE1 trade a 150-hp 2.4-liter 4 cylinder for a 140-hp 2.2 liter. GT and GT1 models retain a 3.4-liter V6. The V6 is optional on the SE1. The 4 cylinder teams with manual or automatic transmission, the V6 with automatic only. Air conditioning, ABS, and traction control are standard. GTs add 4-wheel disc brakes.

The 2002 Pontiac Grand Am received a comprehensive update for the 1999 model year to bolster its position in the segment. Still easily recognizable as a Grand Am, the new model is not quite as long as its predecessor; however, the wheelbase was lengthened by 3.3 inches, giving it a sleek, aggressive stance.

The 2002 Pontiac Grand Am’s other engine choices offer even more power. The 3400 V6 that’s standard on SE2 (optional in other SE editions) delivers 170 hp at 4800 rpm and 195 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. Grand Am GTs up the ante with a standard Ram Air version of the same engine equipped with cold-air induction and lower-restriction exhaust. Its boost output to 175 hp at 4800 rpm and 205 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm.

The 2002 Pontiac Grand Am’s exterior dimensions are 4732 mm length, 1788 mm width, 1400 mm height, 2718 mm wheelbase, 1499 mm front track, 1501 mm rear track, and 10698 mm curb to curb turning circle.

The 2002 Pontiac Grand Am’s seating is provided for five occupants, with front buckets and a three-place rear seat. All models except the base SE have a split, folding rear seatback that adds extra storage space beyond the 14.6-cubic-foot trunk.

Most dash and door controls are easy to reach, including the door-mounted power window buttons that are angled towards the driver, large ring-type interior door handles, twist-type headlight controls on the left stalk, and an ignition keyhole in the dash rather than on the steering column.

Several features add convenience to the 2002 Pontiac Grand Am. Automatic headlights can be set to switch on at nightfall, then turn off 20 seconds after the ignition is shut down, giving the driver some time to unlock a house or garage door. Battery rundown protection automatically turns off all accessory lights after 20 minutes, in case they were left on by mistake.

Another features on the 2002 Pontiac Grand Am are 5-mph bumpers, driver and passenger front airbag, air-conditioning, cornering lights/curb illumination, tilt steering wheel, programmable door locks with lockout protection, an oil life monitor, the PASSLock II theft deterrent, low washer fluid level warning, a sealed-for-life transmission and illuminated entry with theater dimming.
