The Pontiac LeMans was restyled for 1965, as was the GTO. Four transmissions were available in the 1965 Pontiac GTO. Shiftless customers could buy a 2-speed automatic with either steering column or console mounting. Three Hurst equipped floor mounted manual transmissions were available; a 3-speed, and close or wide ration 4-speeds.
The 1965 Pontiac GTO was restyled by adding 3.1 inches (7.9 cm) to the overall length while retaining the same wheelbase and interior dimensions. It sported Pontiac’s characteristic vertically stacked quad headlights. Overall weight increased about 100 pounds (45 kg). Brake lining area increased nearly 15%.
The 1965 Pontiac GTO come with 389 Tri-Power V-8 engine . Rated power increased to 335 hp (250 kW) at 5,000 rpm for the base 4—barrel engine, the Tri-Power was rated 360 hp (270 kW) at 5,200 rpm. The Tri-Power engine had slightly less torque than the base engine, 424 lb•ft (575 N•m) at 3,600 rpm versus 431 lb•ft (584 N•m) at 3,200 rpm. Transmission and axle ratio choices remained the same.
In 1965 the GTO was not yet a separate series, but it was distinguishable from its Tempest sibling by its blacked-out grilles, bold grille, single hood scoop, V-shaped badges behind the front wheel openings, and lettering on its rear side fenders and trunk lid. Under the bonnet was the 421-style cylinder heads which were modified to improve the flow of gases.

The Bonneville was the top of the line model for Pontiac and could be had with every luxury and convenience feature available back then. In addition to luxury, a 421 tri-power V8 was available that provided amazingly smooth and quick acceleration.
The 1965 Pontiac Bonneville‘s V8 engines include the 389 or 400 cubic inch V8s with 4-barrel carburetors with many optional V8 offerings available including Tri Power (three two-barrel carburetion) options on both the 389 and 421 cubic inch V8s that offered up to 376 horsepower (280 kW) through 1966.
Interior
The front bench seat is soft and laid-back; the dash frames big, legible gauges in real wood paneling.
