The 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix is offered in three primary trim levels: base, GT and GTP, with an additional ultimate-handling Competition Group available on the GTP. All are five-passenger, 4-door, front-wheel-drive sedans with 3.8-liter V6 engines and 4-speed automatic transmissions.

2005 Pontiac Grand Prix base and GT models come with a V6 engine that develops 200 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 230 pound-feet of torque at 4000. GTP gets a supercharged version of the same V6 engine that generates 260 horsepower at 5400 rpm and 280 pound-feet of torque at 3600 rpm.

The new for 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP has a 303-hp V8. All models have 4-wheel disc brakes. ABS and traction control are optional for the base Grand Prix, standard otherwise. Base and GT have 16-inch wheels, the GTP has 17s, the GXP has 18s and uprated brakes.

A commitment to style separates the 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix from other mid-size transportation pods. A coupe-like tautness characterizes the exterior design of this four-door sedan, thanks to a more extreme wedge shape and a roofline five inches longer than that of the previous-generation model. The rear end is as muscular as a speed skater’s. Pronounced, enlarged taillights are mounted at the corners.

Grand Prix‘s new family of wheels for 2005 includes a trio of five-spoke, flangeless-design wheel covers and aluminum wheels. The flangeless design pushes the spokes of the wheel to the edge of the rim for a bolder, more prominent look. Sixteen-inch wheel covers are standard on Grand Prix models, and 16-inch aluminum wheels are standard on the2005 Pontiac Grand Prix GT. Seventeen-inch wheels are available on the GT and standard on the GTP.

The 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix is spacious enough for five adults. The deep trunk holds 16 cubic feet of cargo, and a pass-thru in the 60/40-split folding backseat is installed. The larger analog gauges have a 3-D look, and the doors display satin-nickel accents. Pontiac’s optional head-up display can provide a “stealth” mode provision that allows the driver to extinguish all instrument panel lighting for enhanced visibility during night driving.

The 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix has supportive and comfortable seats. The leather-wrapped steering wheel fills the hand just right. The outside mirrors are remarkably large for a sedan. That’s a feature SUV drivers often mention as a reason they like SUVs. Here are large mirrors with an informative view of the world behind and yet add no noticeable wind noise.

In addition to its attractive driving package, the 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix is also quite safe. All new 2005 Grand Prix models feature driver and front-passenger dual-stage airbags and front-seat safety belt pretensioners. Side-impact head-curtain airbags are also available as an option.
