1965 Pontiac Catalina Convertible

Pontiac Catalina was a lightweight, fullsize vehicle outfitted with powerful engines offered in coupe and convertible form. The 1965 Pontiac Catalina is powered by a 421 cubic-inch V8 engine that develops between 338 and 356 horsepower based on carburetor options. The 421 HO engine is based around a ‘high-output’ camshaft and valve train. Other HO features included a declutching fan, special exhaust manifolds, special air cleaners and chrome rocker covers and oil-filler cap.

The body style for the 1965 Pontiac Catalina was new. It was larger than the previous year, but still on the smaller wheelbase when compared to the Bonneville. The headlights were now stacked vertically and the hoods were V-shaped.

Coinciding with the introduction of the GTO in 1964, Pontiac offered a new package option called 2 + 2 for its full-size Catalina 2-door hardtop and convertible. 1965 Pontiac Catalina 2+2 421 Tri-Power Convertible 389 cid overhead valve V8 engine rated at 356 horsepower, three 2-barrel carburetors, 4-speed manual transmission, coil springs and shocks with rear leaf spring suspension and 4-wheel drum brakes.

This Catalina comes in Teal Turquoise with the matching interior. Look inside and see the factory 4-speed transmission on the floor. Inside youll find a beige with brown interior thats a perfect combination for any low key cruiser. The interior features include air conditioning, rear speaker, power antenna, power steering, drum brakes, AM radio, trunk light, and many more.

The 1965 Pontiac Catalina’s external dimensions are 5448 mm length, 2020 mm width, 1397 mm height, 3073 wheelbase, 1600 mm front track, and 1626 mm rear track.

With an endless array of optional equipment available on the various 1964 Pontiac Catalina models, Ray ultimately chose a 389ci engine with Tri-Power induction to motivate his Sport Coupe, and he backed it with a 4-speed manual transmission. Charlotte selected Marimba Red for the exterior, and Ray added 3-colored Ventura interior to complement the rich finish.

The 1964 Pontiac Catalina came with white exterior, gold/white interior. It was mildly restyled, getting larger tail lights which were set into the rear fender caps and bumper for a great look.

On the outside, the 1964 Pontiac Catalina just exudes cool. The Cameo Ivory paint glows, there’s just enough trim to make things interesting and the “dog dish” hubcaps give the car a purposeful Super Duty look. The chrome’s as you’d expect from a well-kept North Carolina car. There’s a set of “Yakuza-style” fender mounted mirrors, an excellent grille, very nice window frames, great bumpers and neat emblems.

For an additional $291, the basic Catalina hardtop coupe or convertible would be transformed into the 2+2 with a special bucket-seat interior with center console, plus exterior 2+2 badges. Optional equipment included a 4-speed manual or Hydra-Matic at the same price. The engines ranged from 276 through 370 horsepower.
