1973 Pontiac Firebird was backed up with a lot of attitude on the exterior, include 15 inch Rallye wheels, front and rear spoilers. The 1973 Pontiac Firebird included a new egg crate styled grill and redesigned endura bumpers.

A new addition to the exterior styling of the 1973 Pontiac Firebird was the large bird decal which covered the entire hood of the Trans Am. This memorable and appeciated “screaming chicken” decal is well known by car lovers everywhere.

The biggest and most notable change for 1973 Pontiac Firebird would have been the introduction of a new Super Duty 455 V8 “SD-455″. The Super Duty name was given to Pontiac’s high performance engines in the early 1960′s. ALL SD-455′s were hand assembled, and had a reinforced block, special cam shaft, aluminum pistons, oversize valves and header-like exhaust manifolds.

The 455, available in the Formula and Trans Am, was introduced last year and hit 300-hp. The 350 V8 was downgraded further to a why-bother 150-hp. The Formula 400 V8 slid to 250-hp. As muscle cars continued to shed power in the new energy-conscious era, the unique SD-455 made the 1973 Pontiac Firebird one of the few truly racing performance cars left on the road.

The 1973 Pontiac Grand Am started out in the development stages as a GTO. But the muscle era was drawing to a close and, very much aware of that, Pontiac decided to change the car’s character. Instead of continuing to make the GTO a stoplight drag star, the next iteration was to be more European — more along the lines of a luxury sport sedan.

The 1973 Pontiac Grand Am was offered as coupe or sedan. The 6.5-liter 400 block V8 engine with a 2-barrel carb rated at 170-hp, while the 4-barrel version came in at 200-hp. These were paired with a Turbo Hydramatic 4-speed automatic. Much rarer was the 400 4-barrel engine paired with a 4-speed manual. A powerhorse 7.4-liter 455 V8 engine hit 250-hp with the Hydramatic transmission.

The 1973 Pontiac Grand Am’s exterior dimensions are 5298 mm length, 1974 mm width, 1344 mm height, 2845 mm wheelbase, 1572 mm front track, and 1552 mm rear track.
