The 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP has an eye-catching design and an overall aura of aggression. Its aggressive stance, clean overall design and large diameter chrome wheels induce surges of adrenaline before even getting inside.
The Pontiac GTP is powered by Gen III 3800 V-6 engine with 200 hp matched with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The Pontiac GTP fits the OHV 3.8-liter engine with an Eaton supercharger for 260 horsepower at 5,400 rpm and 280 lb-ft of torque at 3,600 rpm. Thats a ton of power, even after factoring in its healthy 3,583 pound curb weight, resulting in a sub-7 second zero to 60 mph sprint - that is if you can lock up the front wheels.
The Pontiac GTP has 5-passenger with the rear seat back folds forward, as does the front passenger seatback. This allows you to tote an immense amount of stuff of various sizes and shapes inside the car. You can lay a bicycle in there plus a 9-foot length of lumber.
The Pontiac GTP has 4-wheel disc brakes. Wheelbase is unchanged, but the new body is slightly longer. Rear leg room increases about a half inch, rear head room shrinks about the same. It has a wide pass-through from the trunk to the cabin, rear doors that swing open to about 90 degrees, and a fold-forward front passenger seat.

2006 Pontiac G6 GTP
The 2006 Pontiac G6 GTP came with sedan, coupe, and convertible models. The Pontiac GTP features its own special 3.9-liter V6 engine and higher-capacity 4T65-E 4-speed automatic transaxle. A manual 6-speed wide-ratio transaxle is optional on GTP sedan and coupe models. The G6’s 3.9 liter V6 engine has a healthy amount of power on tap – 240 hp and 241 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel drive does have its advantages – the engine is closer to the drive wheels, so there’s less drive train lash.
Maximum is 235 lb-ft at 3000 rpm, for a solid mid-range punch, but 90 percent of that - 212 lb-ft - is available from 1800 through 5800 rpm. This makes the four-speed automatic transmission’s manual-shift mode optional for all but the most spirited driving, and even then one gear will suffice in most situations. The Pontiac GTP’s transmission shifts with commendable smoothness and speed automatically, and does a good job in manual mode as well.
There’s plenty of grip (0.83 g on our skidpad), making the Pontiac GTP an entertaining handler, if not an all-out road racer. For 2006, the G6 has begat a coupe, and it retains the sedan’s 112.3-inch wheelbase in the name of more-than-occasional rear-seat head and legroom.
The Pontiac GTP offers some interesting features. The car can be started remotely from the comfort of your home by pressing a button on the key fob, a luxury on bitter cold winter mornings or sweltering summer afternoons.
