2006 Pontiac G6 is Pontiac’s sporty, performance-oriented midsize sedan, and coupe and convertible versions are added for this year. The 2006 Pontiac G6 sedan is available in base, 1SV, GT, and GTP models. Both coupe and convertible are available in GT and GTP models.
For 2006, the Pontiac G6 line has been expanded with multiple engine and trim levels. A 2-door coupe and a dramatic folding hardtop convertible are also newly available.
Engine choices for the 2006 Pontiac G6 include a 167-hp 2.4-liter 4-cylinder for the base model, the 201-hp 3.5-liter V6 that comes on the GT, and a 240-hp 3.9-liter V6 with variable valve timing for the new GTP models. Transmission choices include 4-speed automatics for all three engine choices and a 6-speed manual for the high-performance 3.9-liter GTP coupe and sedan.
The 2006 Pontiac G6 uses a sport-tuned fully independent suspension with front and rear stabilizer bars. Traction control is standard. There are three tire sizes available: standard 16-inchers for the base sedan, 17-inchers for GT models and 18-inchers for GTP editions.
Basic traction assist is available on the base model, full-spectrum traction control on the GT, and traction control with the GM/Delphi Stabilitrak chassis control system will be available on the GTP. ABS and traction control are unavailable on 1SV, optional on base models, and standard on other G6s. An antiskid system is a GTP exclusive. GT and GTP have a sport suspension. Crash tests of the sedan with the curtain airbags have shown it to be very safe, with high scores in nearly every category.
Interior

2006 Pontiac G6 Interior
Although the 2006 Pontiac G6 still has a few too many hard plastic surfaces, the cabin boasts attractive design with chrome-ringed gauges and simple-to-use, quality switchgear.
Like other Pontiac models, the 5-passenger G6 cockpit contains sporty controls and racing-style gauges with red LED backlighting. The retractable hardtop model features 2+2 seating. Brushed metal accents and chrome trim decorate the interior. A tilt/telescoping steering column is standard, and adjustable pedals are optional.
Front side airbags are optional on 2006 Pontiac G6 convertibles. Front side airbags and curtain side airbags packaged as a single option are available on all coupes and sedans except the 1SV. Optional for sedans is a “panoramic” sunroof with a tilt-up front section and three rear-sliding panels.
The trunk is still accessible when the top is down, but space is reduced from a tiny 5.8 cubic feet to a grocery-bag sized 1.8 cubic feet. By comparison, the 2006 Pontiac G6 coupe offers 11 cubic feet of trunk space, while the sedan offers 14 cubic feet. Obviously, that can limit your use of the convertible’s top-down mode on long trips.
