Totally redesigned in 1997, the Grand Prix sports a muscular, aggressive look in both coupe and sedan versions. This car’s predecessor, introduced in 1988 as Pontiac’s version of General Motors’ GM-10 platform, was the first Grand Prix to be offered as a 4-door sedan. The 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix came as a base SE sedan or a sportier GT coupe and sedan, as well as with a high-performance GTP sedan and coupe.

A 3.1-liter V6 went into the 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix SE, but those models were delayed for a few months after the car’s introduction in summer 1996. A 3.8-liter V6, available right off the bat, was optional in the SE and standard in GT models. Topping the line, the GTP edition (actually an option package) got a supercharged version of the 3.8-liter unit. All models featuring a 4-speed automatic transmission.

The 3800 engine power is a favorite of 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix drivers. The engine is fast, thrilling, and has a lot of kick you wouldn’t expect in a heavy mid-sized car. Handling is the number one compliment, as it is both sporty, sure-footed, and feels like a smaller car. Acceleration is smooth and instant.

The 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix’s interior space is very comfortable, like the heads-up display and heated seats, and overall they think the Grand Prix packs in a lot of power and luxury at a much cheaper price (and insurance costs) than comparable cars.

There’s less head room in the back seat than front, but it feels like more because a passenger’s head is aft of the headliner. Two cupholders are contained in a wide shared armrest, which folds down and steals the third seat in the rear, while allowing limited access to the trunk.

The 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix’s headroom is plentiful for all seats, and there is adequate leg space in back even when the front seats are as far back as they go. The deep trunk holds 16 cubic feet of cargo. A pass-through section in the rear seatback allows storage of long items.
