1997 Pontiac Grand Am SE
The 1997 Pontiac Grand Am came in a base SE trim and a sportier GT. The SE and GT both housed a 2.4-liter, Twin Cam I4 that got 150-hp with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. The GT had the option of a 3.1-liter, 155-hp V6 that got 30 more lb-ft of torque, but was mated only with the 4-speed auto tran.
The GT Coupe comes with a suspension tuned more for spirited driving, including more aggressive tires on 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels and larger anti-roll bars that reduce body lean in corners.
The 1997 Pontiac Grand Am’s external dimensions are 4,747 mm length, 1,735 mm length, 1,359 mm height, 145 mm ground clearance, and 2,626 mm wheelbase.
The 1997 Pontiac Grand Am includes air conditioning and features two new exterior colors. Standard on all models are dual airbags, power door locks, stereo audio system with AM/FM, cargo area light, front seat center armrest with integral box, and ventilation system with four fan speeds and rear seat heater ducts.
The 1997 Pontiac Grand Am’s interior improvements include the use of fewer parts with premium isolation materials between plastic and vinyl parts to reduce the incidence of interior noise.
1997 Pontiac Sunfire

New for 1997, the Sunfire features PASSlock theft deterrent system, four-wheel ABS brakes and daytime running lights. New standard features include rear seat ventilation ducts and dual air bags.
The 1997 Pontiac Sunfire available in the SE coupe, the SE sedan, the GT coupe and the SE convertible. The 2-door models, the SE coupe, the GT coupe and the SE convertible, are sportier than the 4-door sedan, but the sedan is more practical. It offers more room in the back seat and a bigger trunk than the other models.
The 1997 Pontiac Sunfire has two powerplants and three transmissions. Standard in the SE coupe, sedan and convertible is a 2.2-liter overhead-valve four-cylinder engine that generates 120 horsepower and 130 pound-feet of torque. A Sunfire with the 2.2-liter engine and a five-speed transmission gets 32 mpg on the highway.
The four-speed automatic is available for all models and offers much better gearing than the three-speed automatic. A traction control system is available, but only with the four-speed automatic.
The 1997 Pontiac Sunfire’s external dimensions are 4,620 mm length, 1,737 mm width, 1,346 mm height, 145 mm ground clearance, and 2,644 mm wheelbase.
