1986 Pontiac Fiero was a vastly improved vehicle, with a port-injected V6 engine and nearly 45 more horsepower, an increase of over 50-percent, than its 4-cylinder counterpart. In the proceeding years, other aspects of the Fiero GT were upgraded, including the suspension and brakes in 1988, and the addition of a rear spoiler and ground affects.
The 1986 Pontiac Fiero GT came with 2.8L V6, which was rated at 140 horsepower. Of course, many other GM engines have been made to fit in the Fiero’s engine compartment, from the supercharged 3800 to the Cadillac 4.9 to the good ol’ Chevy small-block.
The 1986 Pontiac Fiero SE came with 2.8L V6, 140 horsepower at 5,200 rpm. The SE use 3-speed auto, 4-speed or 5-speed manual. The 1986 Pontiac Fiero’s exterior dimensions are 165 inches length, 69 inches width, 47 inches height, 93 inches wheelbase, 60 inches front track, and 60 inches rear track.

Prime choice once again was the tuned-port 5.0L V-8 engine, boosted 210 hp, though its torque rating dropped slightly. As before, the TPI engine came only with 4-speed automatic. The 1986 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am’s standard V-8 delivered 150 hp with a 4-barrel carburetor and came with a 5-speed manual.
Standard 2.5L 4 cylinder engine dropped, multi port fuel injected 2.8L V6 now becomes the standard engine. 1986 Pontiac Firebird SE discontinued. New optional rubber/vinyl wrap-around rear spoiler introduced on 1986 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, available only in black. Mid year 1986 Pontiac Firebird were introduced with new light weight crosslace wheel.
All Firebirds now rode standard 15-inch tires. Base models got new taillamps and body touch-ups, plus a rear spoiler. Even if your Firebird lacked musclebound V-8 brawn, it could look the part.
